I became a U.S. citizen during my last semester of college, and I am still trying to process the strangeness of the U.S. naturalization process. Despite becoming a “dual citizen” and retaining my Romanian passport, the oath includes renouncing allegiances to all other entities. Through a range of processes and materials, I preserve and broadcast links to the culture of my upbringing and birthplace. In this series, I incorporate a developing index of symbols, color palettes formed from the interiors and exteriors of my summers spent in Romania, and traditional embroidery patterns.
