The creative practice of erecting hollow forms, by hand-building with formless material, is connected to the idea of power over matter, will and control, which also carries sexualized productive aspects. I use the physical properties of my sculptures to lure the viewer into approaching them. The context, in which the objects I create are placed, endorses meaning over use by talking about sexual identity, gender and sexuality. The context is the gallery; it denies the touching and amplifies inaccessibility.

This is a message for Jose Arenivar-Gomez.
I am curating a show at the Detroit Artists Market (DAM) in early 2019 and wondered if you might be interested in participating? I don’t know if you will be leaving Detroit following graduation but I think your work would fit the theme “Transformation” nicely. Please contact me for more information.
I sit on the Board and on the Exhibition Committee at DAM and I am also the curator at Cobo Center in downtown Detroit. I hope you are available to consider this and to talk about the details. (313)877-8289.
