There is a moment in the process of making when the body takes over and the mind is released. Free of the constant motion of the brain, the hands become machine; rid of the necessity to oversee the making, the mind can wander elsewhere. This is the moment in which I am primarily interested. How does one maintain the tension between control and release? I seek mainly to find that elusive moment in my work, while sorting through themes of beauty, anxiety, spirituality and the age-old question of human purpose and what all this even means.
