False Liths

Cyanotype on silk, 2017, 24"w x 36"h

In the DFW area, many parks surround the Trinity River and its tributaries. I use a 19th-century photogram process called cyanotype to document a specific point of the Trinity’s waterline, using the sunlight as my exposure variable. The resulting cyanotypes are compiled and manipulated to create fictive landscapes. In searching for an appreciation of place, I am making beauty from the mud, brackish water and stones that hug the waterline. I imagine the Trinity River, wishing it had altitude, Prussian blue waters and extended horizons; I see it as a metaphor for opportunity and access.
