A chasm is place of potential, a liminal space that we instinctually want to fill. This empty space interests us because it is so unstable. There is a certain discomfort with vacancy. The idea of being bound together is the opposite of a gap in many ways—a means of counteracting emptiness by weaving things, thoughts or people together. A nest exemplifies this, representing the secure, the protected.
