2012, Inkjet pigment print with ink and acrylic paint, 40"w x 26"h
The image of a place, an inhabited landscape, a snapshot in time … this is my starting point. Using the iconic everyday images found in family photo albums, I transform the ordinary to be at once familiar and strange. Through a repeated process of scanning, enlarging and painting, I obscure the figures, architecture and traces of human presence. In each image, landscape reclaims visual space——figures merge with the land or take on its characteristics. The gestural brush strokes and materiality of the paint act as metaphors for the textures, colors and shapes of the changing landscape.

I love this piece. It is beautiful….peaceful.
