Vibrant and sculptural, my current paintings reflect a culmination and synthesis of a lifelong practice of painting, psychoanalysis and exposure to the colors, traditions and handicrafts of Västerbotten, Sweden, and Telemark, Norway. Semi-abstract, they are hand-carved into thick layers of paint that reference a Scandinavian palette and a tradition of carving. The painting process is partially directed by free association and references the unconscious mind through the layering of the paint and the semi-abstract dream-like forms. The pieces I create often encapsulate an experience or idea.
