MFA 2017
Acrylic, oil, charcoal on canvas, 2016, 60"w x 48"h
My work highlights awkward social encounters and stressful power dynamics. I use dinner parties as a microcosm of human behavior. A dinner party represents the best version of one’s self presented within the private space of the home. The bright ground begins the painting with a positive tone. However, the uncanny seems to surface, as home-like qualities differ in small and unexpected ways, come in and out of focus, and at times become subtly foreign and disorienting. The dream-like state reflects on both the myth of a flawless evening and the cold performance in a play.
