acrylic on canvas, 2014, 38"w x 38"h
Paintings, like quilts, are devised through a number of smaller pieces to create a larger work that reads harmoniously. The similarities between the two have driven my desire to investigate the act of painting while investigating the creation of quilts, which is inspired by my move from rural southwestern Ontario to Toronto. By contrasting the spontaneous process of creating the work with hard-edge optical illusion, the work challenges the definition of painting today.
