Imagery of an athletic diver, a blink-and-you-miss-it moment, draws an image of the artistry that goes behind moments like these. Though magnificent to look at, there is often a lack of appreciation for these athletes who put in so much work into things they love. The reflection in this piece conveys how quickly this moment fades from our minds as it disappears into the gold; it also focuses on the figure as he comes into formation. I kept with a fairly traditional means of painting the form with oil paint while bringing in a more modern palette to add drama and motion.
