MFA 2018
Oil on raw canvas, 2017, 60"w x 27"h
Dispersed stains mark painted objects in a disappearing space. I permeate surfaces with stains, permanently recording performances past. I challenge the negative implications of stains as a stigma, a blemished reputation or an imperfect blotch. As a second generation Italian immigrant, I am exploring my identity as an American woman with a distant history. I am exploring the subconscious remnants left behind by my personal historical displacement. My works are psychological metaphors for relationships and memories. Remnants of marks are evidence of my failed attempts to wipe away or erase.
