2012, Oil paint on wood panel, 36"w x 48"h
From the perspective of a sports fan, I deconstruct the world of professional football to simple aspects of the game including movement, roughness, immensity, physicality, and excitement. These features are represented through large, loose brush strokes contrasting with soft brushy ones. My paintings are made to feel more animated than like a static picture, similar to the movement seen on a TV screen. I work on large, heavy, durable wood panels to reflect the size and strength of the football players, and my final product describes the contemporary jock of North America’s favorite sport.
