Acrylic on canvas, 2017, 48"w x 48"h
I am a woman living in a culture that I did not grow up in. My work is about the relationships with my environment in Lithuania and here in Toronto. I am attracted to the subject matter of place—extended, charged with memories and sometimes nonexistent. I am into the process of transformation; I often cut my canvases up and reuse them on other surfaces. It allows me to build, destroy and rebuild again. Like memory, the space I paint is fragmented with no clear ending; it continues and provides room for the viewer to travel.
