BFA 2015
acrylic and Conté on canvas, 2014, 48"w x 48"h x 2"d
My work examines architecture, urban life and the experience of the built environment in contrast to the natural landscape. I use photos taken during my daily travels through the city and combine them with my observations and memories to create an abstract impression of a space. These spaces are both invented and referenced from reality, which makes them ambiguous yet familiar. Engaging color combinations metaphorically point to the vibrancy of urban life and the feeling of being connected to a broader urban context. I attempt to explore human-manipulated space and how it shapes our perceptions of our surroundings and ourselves.
