Blurring the lines between surface, support and the space the artwork occupies, my work looks to play with painting’s conventions by reconfiguring its basic elements. The traditional rectangle becomes distorted and partially split. The shape is divided yet conjoined. The surface consists of translucent materials, revealing the structure underneath as well as the surface it hangs on. This results in paintings that are in a state of flux. Image and object, surface and support, veiled and unveiled. Tension and anxiety are reflected in the fragmentary identities of these paintings and their basic components.
