I come from a mixture of urban and agrarian backgrounds where manual labor—skillfully working with one’s hands—has been a way of life for generations. Consequently, I am very interested in handiwork and its opposite: cheap, mass-produced commodities. My artwork explores that dichotomy by physically suturing together the random, disposable detritus of middle-class life in a craftsman-like manner—with attention to detail, finishing and structure—making for sculptural work that has an aberrant quality, something both new and old, junky and refined.
