The cessation of our family’s automobile trips to and from our homes in Guanajuato, Mexico, and Fort Worth, Texas, gave occasion for this painting, Spirit of the Artist. During half a century of cataloging and photographing the landscape from the highway, I have collected memories and images that I treasure. This painting includes an embedded image of me, even though it is oblique.
