Storytelling is key to my artistic practice. As a printmaker and book artist I combine text and image to convey narrative. My “meta-comics,” based on a lifetime of comic book reading, remain outside of the genre in order
to comment on this type of communication. I use the comic convention of the “thought cloud” because this symbol is on the border between image and language. It is universally recognized as a container for interior dialogue. The “thought cloud” is a glyph or shorthand representation of thought that has the effect of giving thought a physicality and location. Often my images treat the “thought cloud” as a character in its own comedy.
