Not filtered by pollution or haze, the light of northern New Mexico is strong and direct. It best defines the monumental geography and architecture with intense shadows and vibrant reflections that create complex shapes and textures.
Returning to a selection of locations multiple times throughout a day, I took interest in both the subtle and dramatic transitions occurring between a diverse range of reflected surfaces, including adobe and native vegetation, their derived shapes, and perceivable textures. I translated these observations into monotype, aquatint and dry-point works. My compositions are built with simplified masses to define unusual forms and spatial relationships in the complex landscape.
