Online image databases have the ease of accessibility that allows for an enormous range of use of digital content. The advances in tools for reproducing media have also given flexibility to the medium. By using image databases, scanning technology, and commercial retouching techniques, I wish to explore the limits of composing appropriated materials. By using familiar contemporary photographers’ work, I aim to find the lines between use and mis-use and where appropriation of subject becomes a material, and how cultural memory can be altered.
