This series of paintings is an investigation into the presentation of women in the media. I have interpreted the pin up genre (also known as “cheesecake”) as well as advertisements that utilize the female form (as a series of parts or something to be “consumed”), to create surreal “edible” dancers. I am interested in how idealized presentations of the female body in our visual culture can leave real women vulnerable to disordered self-perception, objectification, and even violence.
