MFA 2016
screenprint triptych, 2015, 11"w x 15"h
Through the lens of adulthood I revisit the anxieties of childhood. Transitional objects are meant to ease the loosening of the mother-child bond as a child realizes that he/she is an individual. My work elevates the tangible objects and fictitious companions we manifest from these disquiets. Blankies destroyed through adoration, toys worn by use, and imaginary friends as well as enemies are recreated, distorted, enhanced or multiplied to explore the bearing they still have on the adult mind. I use animations, puppets, characters, drawings, prints and large-scale installations to reexamine the things I should have already outgrown.
