2013, Acrylic on canvas, 52"w x 45.5"h
My intention is to materialize imagination and intuition using an abstract vocabulary to make
a space in which something unexpected occurs. Within it I juxtapose geometry and line with organic shapes implied by brushstrokes, pulling the viewer into a weightless place where visual conundrums may be encountered. Some elements create movement and tension, provoking thoughts of chance and uncertainty. Others suggest shape-shifting, assuming different forms depending on the light or angle at which they are seen. I am interested in the articulation of color within monochromes and the visceral reaction elicited by sharp contrast. The painting is built from shape, by line, by stroke, each mark responding to the one before.
