Many of the shapes in my work make use of an opening or a split. This gap allows the piece to make use of symmetry, a prevalent quality in our domestic and natural surroundings. Beyond this, an opening suggests a window or revelation. In this the viewer can consider the boundary between the utility of a material and its aesthetic purpose.
