MFA 2015
ceramic, 2014, 27"w x 8"h x 6"d
During my time at Cranbrook Academy of Art, I struggled with my practice and tried to understand how my work connects to others. The forms in Without Water not only physically resemble natural sea sponges; they were once so. Now they are ceramic and can no longer absorb or function in the way they once did. Without Water represents that struggle with my artistic insecurity, futility of actions and what felt like an inability to absorb information and change into a better artist.
