In my painting, I explore female identity through narratives of the past and present while juxtaposing realism with abstraction to present identity as an abstract concept that changes with context. I use expressive brushstrokes and colors to express my cat’s identity in a timeline manner that consists of the past and present, setting up narratives surrounding memories, stories, connections, emotions, desires and idealizations of femininity. In my paintings, I paint my cat’s kitten self with her present self to reminisce and juxtapose the past with the present.
