Oil on canvas, found antique wooden keys, 2016, 38"w x 84"h
In March 2015, I lost two very important members of my family within two days. My cousin and my grandma were the two major characters on the Iranian side of my family, and I have taken the past two years to explore their lives and what they meant to me through my artwork. I started this piece with the wooden key to my family garden and then combined places and patterns from my memories of our hometown of Mahan. The ceiling of a mosque, Kerman carpets, a historic fountain and plants from our garden are combined to make my mysterious but idyllic version of paradise for my lost family members.
