My work is equally indebted to the long trajectory of landscape art and the fictitious and real histories of places that have inspired it. My collages are composites of memory and observations from my travels abroad. They depict geographic and geologic details encountered in mountains, cliff crevices and russet plateaus. Details pull the viewer toward recognizable and tempting shapes, reminding them of stairways, caves or lakes they might have seen somewhere. These signs of familiarity, however, never quite come into focus, always staying outside the reach of the recognizable.
