Hand-dyed cotton, 2016, 26"w x 31"h
Layers upon layers upon layers—this is a common theme in my work. I work with layers of dye, layers of techniques and layers of tradition. I find it intriguing to layer multiple colors of dye over each other in different patterns with the help of quilting techniques and shibori, a dyeing technique that involves folding and clamping fabric to create a resist. The traditions of both of these techniques are important to me and inform my work in different ways. My work revolves around adding color and also taking color away, creating pattern and rearranging that pattern to create something new.
