Born and raised in Trinidad and Tobago, I feel a sense of attachment to my homeland. I have grown fond of the environment there as well as the colours associated with it. My works depict this, as they comprise abstract shapes of local flora and fauna and the vibrant colours of the Caribbean. The process of batik—a technique used in fabric design that involves the layering of wax and dyes—serves to reflect the beachwear worn in the tropics. Fragments is a 100-panel piece that transforms the tropical landscape into a giant, abstract mosaic.
