collage on wooden panel, 2015, 8"w x 10"h
I strive to create art that critiques stereotypes and expectations of women, formed by 21st-century ideas of family dynamics. My work explores the ambiguity of family life from a woman’s perspective in terms of her responsibilities, anxieties and pressures in comparison to that of a man’s. These ideas are communicated through the medium of collage, where I collect a variety of images from mainstream media sources. I distort and juxtapose these everyday images to create surreal fictional families, presenting the woman as a dominant parent in the process of child rearing.
