During the summer of 2013, I traveled to Taos, New Mexico. In the two months I spent there, I found that the rich culture and artistic traditions of the Southwest inspired me to create work about the landscape and our place in it. These diptychs explore the textures of the landscape using the earth itself from places that moved me—Plaza Blanca or “The White Place,” where Georgia O’Keefe once created work among the limestone columns jutting into the sky and Box Canyon, which offered the distinct notion of the sublime inside a canyon of remarkable colors.
