Acrylic on wood panel, 2018, 30"w x 24"h
I create paintings about growing up in the border town of El Paso, Texas. Part of what inspires my work is my collection of old family photographs. Looking back, I have fond memories of riding around in my father’s orange Volkswagen bus. We lived in an apartment complex located about ten minutes from the U.S.-Mexico border. La Combi, inspired by an old photo, features a bird’s-eye view of my father’s car from the window of our apartment. This painting emphasizes the closeness of the border wall while considering the vastness of
the desert.
