As a second-generation Latin American-Canadian, ethnicity, origins, culture, tradition, skin color, value systems, customs, identity, migration, integration, and familial hierarchy and bonds raise vital questions. Large-scale portraiture is the catalyst allowing expression of these themes. I am stimulated to analyze and reconstruct the face. I choose to paint individuals close to me—people often ignored and unseen in the history of the painted portrait.
