Acrylic on wood panel, 2015, 48"w x 48"h x 2"d
Untitled (Mountain) belongs to a body of work focusing on memory and tension. My process for this piece began with collage, combining and merging various shapes until they resembled a mountain range. When translating my collage into painting, I let areas of the wood panel and white background show through, revealing the layers that make up the piece. I explore visual harmony through a minimal color palette, stripping down the mountain to the essentials. The painting emphasizes the visual weight and heaviness of the mountains contrasting with the loose brushstrokes that form them.
