I am interested in the oral traditions of storytelling; I draw and paint my own life as it relates to the greater story of the human condition—simultaneous tragedy and joy in perseverance. My physical form and mental state, as subject matter, have been offset within my work. Even though I always begin with direct observation, I listen for the voice of the drawing. As the subject and mark-making dictate the process, the work becomes both figurative and abstract. My work is a history of experience, a record including both violence and a subtle sustaining ability to create beauty.
