Helical Geometry

Computer code, paper, 2016, 27"w x 22"h

This work explores the transformation of an image through a system of code-based rules and technological processes in a virtual space with a reemergence back into the physical world. I use my original computer code, other software and a computer numerical control machine to transform the image into woodcut plates. A traditional etching press is then used to return the image from the virtual system back into the physical world as an embossed print. Varying levels of human intervention into the aesthetic decisions explore the exchange between the artist and the system.
