The evolution, entropy and planning of urban environments are recurring thematic concerns within my practice. I draw from the use of space, the separation that exists between community development and urban renewal, and the dichotomy within cities and between private and public spaces. These concepts are expressed through abstracted representations of buildings, cityscapes and methods of mass transit. My current work is inspired by imagery of Toronto Transit platforms, highways, buildings and city of Toronto maps to create spatial perceptions of the evolving urban environment. It is intuitive in its process and visual appearance. Through the exploration of urban spaces, I am endeavoring to create work that is tactile and organic, acknowledging both the addition and removal of material to create a perpetually changing whole.
