I entered the Masters program at SMU as a photographer wanting to push against what I considered traditional photography. Much of the work I was doing was an attempt at breaking down a photograph into basic elements. I used print media and its various printing techniques to create what I considered a binary structure. The pieces presented are as close to traditional as I got while in school. To create them I opened the camera shutter for long periods and manipulated various forms of light. It was similar to my process of breaking down images in print media, in that I was trying to focus on the single element light.
