2012, Coffee and wax on panel, 30"w x 30"h
This encaustic painting was made using purely natural, renewable materials. There are no synthetic chemicals, pigments or oils used, so the painting has no negative health effects. Ground organic coffee was mixed with naturally colored beeswax, which was then poured onto a wax-covered panel. Four types of coffee in fluctuating saturation were used to achieve a variation of colors and textures. The wax was poured in a pattern loosely based on the mapping of brain impulses, drawing a connection to the physical addictions that most people experience with caffeine.
