2013, Oil and acrylic on panel, 48"w x 42"h
My work explores detritus—the remnants of structures now lost—and my attraction to its aesthetic qualities. Within the images, ambiguity of form is central, provoking reflection and curiosity. The paintings open up the opportunity to personify the objects within the image: objects sit in an intimate psychological space in which one can contemplate and reflect on their meaning and purpose. Transformation occurs when the once-functional detritus is reimagined through the exploitation of unusual vantage points, highly saturated color and painterly abstraction.
