String art, 2016, 36"w x 24"h x 0.75"d
I created Swaying Parrots with the goal of suggesting movement in a 3-D representation. After visiting my local zoo and studying the movements of several different birds, I composed this piece. Because the large nails are kept about an inch from the surface of the wood and the string is tightly wrapped around the tips of the nail heads, when the light shines on the parrots there are several shadows being cast on the wood, creating a sense of motion.
