The work that I make focuses on emphasizing the black experience and history, specifically moments, people and objects that are not well known to the mainstream narrative. This work is based on Underground Railroad quilts that were created by slaves. Each pattern contains a secret message that would give those who understood it the necessary directions for escaping to freedom in the North.
