I see portraiture as a unique opportunity to expand upon reality. I work from photos of figures that are digitally altered or posed in an unusual situation. The alternative reality that is created opens the possibility for psychological themes to be visually demonstrated. I am in interested in the collective human experience, with a focus on identity and emotion. These ideas are explored in the paintings through the manipulations that are imposed on the figures. While a resulting image could not exist in real life, it offers a more complete picture of the whole person.
