2010, Acrylic and oils on canvas, 48"w x 60"h
My recent works have been figurative, over time becoming increasingly gestural and abstract. I have drawn upon other visual and literary artists’ works for inspiration. In Thin Man meets Tintin I playfully and quite arbitrarily bring together two 20th century literary characters, created respectively by Dashiell Hammett and George Remi. The title and its allusions came to me only after the work was complete, when one viewer remarked how the foreground figure reminded her of Tintin — to which I agreed. There is no deep critical statement intended in this work. It is simply a playful and colorful painting.
