I believe that an artist does not need the finest supplies, the newest equipment or the most convenient workspace. Although working in this manner is not the mark of a true artist, the ability to do so, when needed, is. By necessity, I started out mainly using found materials, since my family couldn’t afford much in the way of art supplies. I painted on cardboard and sculpted rusty metal. Now that I do have the means to use “better” materials, I miss the stories behind those scraps. In response, I use materials that either convey sentimental value or that can be imbued with that same feeling.
