oil on panel, 2015, 16"w x 20"h x 2.5"d
My current body of oil-on-panel paintings set out to use landscape as a proxy for violence, specifically as it refers to Colombian identity and the way it counterbalances the hybridity of my own identity: hybridity as it refers to the use of landscape as both a platform for referring to archetypal Canadian painting and a stand-in for understanding the cultural violence that has defined a troubled Colombian past. The work serves to reconcile moments of memory and experience as they vacillate between multiple nodesĀ of multiculturalism.
