In my work, commercial materials function as symbols rather than real objects. Positioned to resist their formal understandings, I am deliberate in my attempts to challenge preestablished relationships to these materials and do so through their pairings and display. Because of this, these works often read as objects out of place. I find humor in this and question how value and labor are constructed, critical of preestablished understandings of fine art materials.
