What makes a painting valid? Working between genres, from abstraction to representational pop, I embrace this question with a sense of freedom and material investigation. Deconstructing styles and historical painting languages, I question the legitimacy of painting’s “seriousness” and through creative play, make works with unexpected imagery and narratives. Burn, baby, burn plays on tropes of the disaster painting and blockbuster cinema, presenting a landscape where man-made and natural catastrophes compete. (It’s not a Mercedes-Benz though).
