In my painting, I explore female identity through a narrative of the present while juxtaposing realism with abstraction to depict identity as an abstract concept that changes with context. I use expressive brushstrokes and colors to express my own identity in a portrait manner that sets up narratives surrounding memories, stories, connections, emotions, desires and idealizations of femininity. My painting is very personal, expressive and emotional as I paint myself with my cat. The confrontation of the present is a narrative exploration of my own female identity as well as my cat’s.
